Height, picket spacing, gates and latches, and the parts most people miss.
Height and spacing
Most codes require a barrier at least 48 inches tall with openings a 4 inch sphere cannot pass through, and no horizontal rails a child can climb on the outside.
Gates
Gates must open away from the pool, close on their own and latch on their own, with the latch high enough that a small child cannot reach it.
The house as a barrier
If a house wall forms part of the enclosure, doors to the pool usually need alarms or self-closing hardware. Your crew will walk the whole perimeter with you.
